How to learn how to invest by your dad shoving you in a pool as a child

How'd you learn how to swim?

I'm guessing either swimming lessons or you never learned.

What I didn't guess was by way of good ole' corn pop shoving you in with bud light in hand.

This happened to a friend of mine when we were young and living in a hotel.

We stayed on the shallow end all summer...until one day I saw him flailing in the deep end.

A good ole' push from his father literally presented him with 2 options: sink or swim.

He swam.

And it helped because it forced me to learn so I could go play with him.

In the email I talk as if it happened to me. It's funnier that way and I'm sure the kid, wherever he's at, wouldn't mind.

Anyways, grab your bud lights boys and girls this one's gonna be wet n' wild!

Sub line: Dad no! Investing advice from a trauma

Remember when you were like 6 years old, didn’t know how to swim yet, and would get close to the pool's edge?

Remember that one day your dad just shoved you in, and as you looked up from 2 feet underneath the water you could see him chuckling, pointing at you, and holding a bud light?

Or am I the only one who went through that?

Ok…

Even if you didn’t have a sadistic dad...do you remember your first time swimming in the deep end?

You were totally over the shallow end, and you were ready to go join the big kids in the “deep-scary end.”

You mustered up the courage...walked over to the far end of the pool….

...and then chickened out.

You tried it again the next day…

...and the day after that…

...but continued to chicken out...

...until one day, you said enough of this (or your dad shoved you in) and you made the big-kid leap of faith.

And do you remember what happened after that?

You had the best time of your life. You got to play marco polo with your older family members, dive deeper than ever before, and your bravery paid serious dividends.

So what took you so long to pull the trigger?

You were scared, anxious, nervous, stressed, fearful, frightened…

But as soon as you realized you could hang….instantly, all those feelings were gone.

I see a lot of new investors dipping their toes into the stock market only to shy away and scurry back to the shallow end...or as I like to call it, a traditional savings account.

The thing is…

Investing is just like the deep end of the pool.

It looks scary. It frightens you, it may make you nervous...but in reality, once you give it a try you quickly realize it’s not nearly as bad as you made it out to be.

Just like swimming in the deep end.

And on a hot day in early June, it's best to get started earlier in the summer rather than later. You don’t wanna be hanging out in the shallow end all summer long…

...just like you don’t want your money hanging out in a savings account as the global economy undergoes radical changes throughout the next decade.

Because one thing is for sure…

If you leave your money in a traditional savings account you're at severe risk of losing purchasing power.

10-year treasuries are “earning” negative real returns.

Global economies are stuck in gridlock.

Countries across the globe are printing money like it's going out of style.

And interest rates are amongst the lowest in history…

Meaning your money sitting in a savings account is doing one thing…

Losing value.

If you want to put your money to work rather than allow it to lose value sitting in your savings account, then check out the link below…

Only thing is…

That's all for now.
